Establishment Of Committees

This subcomponent aims at establishing the base for joint forest management at the village level. The target villages will be selected and a JFMC, EDC or PSS established in each village. New committees will not be established if one already exists in the village. A total of 180 JFMCs, EDCs, and PSS?s will be brought under the project over a three-year period. These committees will serve as the foundation for village-based management of forests and biodiversity in reserved forests, protected forests, and protected areas. Some of these committees will also be involved in some of the activities proposed under the forest and biodiversity conservation component and ecotourism component.

The main stages of project implementation at the village level will be the followings.
  • rapport-building and establishment of a committee; 
  • PRA and microplanning; 
  • implementation of activities; and 
  • monitoring and review.
